The Hess Mess

How Life Becomes a Cycle
Tania’s Parents

It all started when my father had met my mother at a dance in an Ecuadorean club in Chicago in 1962 where he had gone with a friend from work. She was 17, he was 28!
After a short courting time and with the permission of her aunt and uncle, they got married. My mother barely spoke English and my father’s Spanish was non- existent.

Shortly after their wedding they moved to Stickney, a suburb of Chicago, to a small basement apartment. He had a job at a nearby steel mill as a “trouble shooter” and his job required he traveled sometimes. My mother often went along not to be so isolated because of her limited English and because she did not worked outside the house at that point.

When my brother was about a year old, my parents were convinced by my maternal grandmother to come to visit Ecuador. During that visit, my mother found out she was pregnant with me. She said she cried because my brother was so little, she felt so alone in the States with no one to help and she was so young and inexperienced. She was 19 and expecting her second child!

I was born in McNeal Hospital in Berwyn, near Stickney, and a few months later my parents moved to Ecuador for good; they never returned to the States while I was young.

Hey Check It Out!

Hey I did it too! I'm sorry, but this is the best idea since sliced bread. As much time as I spend goofing around in the net doing nothing might as well make it "productive" and fun!

Hey, vean my blog, que buena idea!
